India today is 70 years still young. Pardon me if I am wrong grammatically but very right in terms of zeal and spirit. Many would say oh 70 years is a lot in terms of age while a group with a unending zeal, majestic dreams and unfailing valour to chase their dreams will say 70 , still a lot needs to be done, still need to explore the hidden potential still need to bank upon our uniqueness.
I won’t hesitate to say that many people consider grey hair, wrinkles and aching muscles and joints as a sign to retire not just from jobs but from the life full of joy, dreams, hopes and youth. Normally our society follows a set code of conduct as a citizen. We take birth, we become student, then a youth, then enter into work life, get married, finally grow old and ……… this blank has numerous answers which depends upon our attitude. Some people just surrender to god, others may be busy dealing with health issues and still a lot must be chasing their dreams or just enjoying what they really like. This isn’t the case with the aging population but with young people like us too.
There are people in different fields today who have proved that nothing is impossible if you really do what you believe in leaving behind the set parameters in terms of age, physical disabilities or even gender. Nanammal is a 98 years old yoga teacher in Tamil Nadu who is still enlightening children, youth and others with her unfailing enthusiasm and dedication towards yoga, never seen a doctor, knows more than 50 asanas and had attempted for Guinness record.
Another example is of Karate Master Sensei Pervez Mistry, a 73 year of age who is doing karate since he was just 13. He is the first Indian Karate Black belt expert who is qualified to teach and grade. He is amongst the world renowned karate instructors today and gone through several grades in black belt and been a part of numerous Karate federations.
More names to signify women power are Vijay Lakshmi S. Nair and Oinam Rashi Devi both 75 years of age who stood first and second respectively in long jump category at 35th National Masters Athletic Championship held in 2014 at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
So the crux is we become what our attitude makes us, therefore age is just a number. The motive is not to do things out of your way but do what you love and revere. The purpose is to remove the mental hurdles which stop you from being what you are. Take time off from the hustle bustle and “gotta do” mindset. Don’t shy away from doing what you are good at just because many people won’t support your idea. All great and gracious people excelled and made a mark because they just dedicated themselves to a purpose leaving past their age and freeing themselves from mental cage.
