Life has so many twist and turns and we just have to flow with the current or strive hard to undo and overcome certain challenges put forth. But life does teach us so much that leaves us speechless that experience can only be felt as simple, pure and transformational.

This true story is about two people who taught and learned something really inspiring and beyond the set mindsets about a group of people who in our society is looked at either with threat or disgust. Still some people try to turn their heads towards them rather than turning their backs. Such people are found at Gnosis Medical Yoga, Pune that blends medical science with traditional healing therapies of yoga. People at this institute have directed their efforts and dedicated their lives for the upliftment of various sections of our society.

Ms. Julie Dattani, a District Co-ordinator by International day of yoga along with her colleague Yogita took the onus of training 10 teachers each as a thoughtful initiative in order to celebrate Yoga week. They scanned many schools, IT sectors and institutes to impart training. One of the most crucial and unique task for them was to train people at Central Jail. For this they were both excited and also skeptical to an extent about the kind of reaction their initiative will gather. To ensure things to work out well they took prior appointment and organized all the documents which were asked for by the jail authorities. The jail superintendent allowed them to teach just for one day on 20th June 2018. Julie and Yogita reached the jail and started the session with prayer followed by asanas as per their protocol. They spent more time on Shavasana and Pranayama, both emphasize on relieving stress and relaxing the mind, body and soul and inhaling prana. At this time, every jail authority and every prisoner were just learners nothing more nothing less. After this engaging session Julie and Yogita were invited to take one more yoga session on 21st June, i.e. International yoga day. To their surprise, the number of participants was just double those on previous day. It was learning and a glance into their lives which is full of stress and distress, discomfort and a vicious circle of misery. Soon Julie and Yogita made up their mind to continue this exercise at least once in a week in order to bring some hope and transformation in their lives and allow them to experience and believe in the power of yoga.

Julie and Yogita teach in Female jail in Pune. Thus the prisoners and the jail staff are able to free themselves from misery, mental stress and empowered to face the challenges with a calm approach and a fresh look at life. This makes Julie and Yogita relive the moment of pride and explore the forbidden pages of people’s lives.
