Thyroid Care With Yoga, Ayurveda And Naturopathy

Can you imagine about 42 million people in India suffer from thyroid diseases?  Almost every third Indian suffers from thyroid dysfunction. Alarming, isn’t? But why are we falling prey to it? Any thoughts on it?

Conditions like stress, physiological problems, mental pressure or environmental stress lead to dysfunctioning of thyroid glands. Basically two types of conditions occur in such cases – Hyperthyroidism wherein the thyroid glands produce excessive amounts of hormones in the bloodstream than the actual requirement of the body. Second is Hypothyroidism in which the glands are unable to produce enough thyroid hormones to meet the requirements of the body. The hormone secretion in the thyroid is regulated by TSH Thyroid Stimulating Hormones made by the pituitary glands that ensure enough quantity of thyroid is produced as per requirement in the body.

The majority of cases of hypothyroidism have been reported from North India while the south and west zones have cases of hyperthyroidism.

The state of dysfunction of thyroid hormone be it Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism causes problems associated with mental health, nervous system, memory, weight loss or weight gain, extremes in emotions, excessive hunger, cardiac issues, high cholesterol, low immunity, indigestion, menstrual or fertility issues in women and deteriorating personal and professional life.

Conventional medicines are available for instant relief and controlling the thyroid but in the long run, they have their own set of disadvantages as every human anatomy is unique. Therefore the trend is shifting towards alternative healing therapies like Yoga Ayurveda and Naturopathy. These therapies work after a thorough study of the patient’s history, psychological and emotional health. Moreover, a guided approach to healing by lifestyle interventions and other nature curative tools ensure a preventive measure for those who wish to stay healthy.
