Bhagvad Gita with S Ravi Shankar

The online journey for Yoga Nidhi started in 2012 with Yoga Sutra and Vedic Chanting Classes. Currently, our online classes and workshops are offered via Zoom. The format of the class depends upon the  subject and the content delivered. The past programs are also available to groups.

About Class
The Gita has been interpreted in many different ways according to the framework of each perspective. In this session, we look at the message of the Gita from the viewpoint of the Yoga Sutra. That is, as it speaks to us in our yoga journey. The deeper meanings of the words used, the context in which they occur, together with relevant references to the story of the Mahabharata, provide the framework of this exploration. The class will comprise the chanting of the slokas with Sheela and the explanation given by Ravi. Participants will be given the option to record the class themselves.

Please Note
  • Recordings of previous classes are available for purchase

S Ravi Shankar
Ravi  Shankar has been on the path of Yoga for more than 25 years. He is a student of TKV Desikachar and has spent a number of years working under him and continues to teach in the same tradition. He has completed the intensive 2-year teacher training Diploma in Yoga at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. The learning he cherishes most is the years spent working on TKV Desikachar’s yoga journal Darsanam. The association with his teacher during that time influenced him deeply and has shaped his life thereon.
Sheela Shankar
Sheela Shankar is also a student of T.K.V. Desikachar. She  has undergone the 2-year teacher training Diploma in Yoga at the KYM and was working with Ravi in the editing and production of the journal Darsanam. She was one of TKV Desikachar’s foremost teachers of Vedic Chanting and is also a trained classical singer in both the Carnatic and the Hindustani tradition. Over the years, Sheela has continued to practice and teach Vedic Chanting and bhajans (a form of devotional music) to several individuals and groups from different parts of the world. She was one of the Keynote speakers in the Association of Yoga Studies Convention in 2018 along with Ravi Shankar.
