Hello,

Yes of course yoga can help your knees and your mothers.

Here is one simple exercise which you can perform in bed.

Sit up straight with your legs stretched out in front of you.

Keep you knee caps relaxed

Breathe in and pull in your knee cap gently. Breathe out and let it go, relax it.

Try and release it slower when you exhale.

Do this 6 times with each knee and then 6 times with both knees. Practice it at least 3 times in the day.

If pain persists or you have trouble doing the practice, stop and take medical consultation or meet a certified yoga therapist.

Take care

Hi Harshvardhan,

Thanks for your reply, this practice was given to me by my physiotherapist. I have tried couple of times but every time it leaves me with a sensation that my knee is shivering because of which I never felt confident to stand and I stopped it. My mother has got her knee operation, is it safe for her to do.

Medical supervision is already there, doctors have suggested some painkillers but I know my knees have not much strength & I might fall anytime under the surgeon's knife :D

Who are certified yoga therapist, where I can find them?

Thanks
Asha

Hi Asha, I only can help you with your diet because as my wife a nutritionist and I've picked up many diet habits from her. Arthritis or Joint-knee pain can be managed if you stop eating inflammatory foods like refined sugar, soda, alcohol and spicy food. FFoods are also known to cause inflammation which is something you want to absolutely stay away from. You can also take some supplements that help reduce inflammation. The most natural out of these supplements  is honey. Its also really easy to incorporate in diet because you can eat it by itself or spread it on toast or even drink it with your tea or milk. Another inflammation reducing supplement is grape seed extract. It is specifically helpful for arthritis because of its anti inflammation and pain reducing properties. Its available in the form of capsules that are called OPC capsules. Ill link to a page that you can get them from https://www.vitaminexpress.org/uk/opc-vital-opc-capsules Its a helpful website because it also has useful info about the supplements that they're selling.

I am sure Yoga will help you with your knee pain. However, combining yoga with herbal remedies can give you a boost. My mom had the same issue. Even after her knee operation she never got rid of knee pain. She started Yoga therapy and there she was advised to follow a natural ayurvedic diet rich in anti-inflammatory herbs and spices. Then we started following iahas.com for some natural and herbal remedies on knee pain and now she is doing fine. Her pain has reduced.
