Food as Medicine: The Healing Power of Nutrition

In many traditional diets, especially those with deep cultural roots, food is seen as a whole rather than broken down into macronutrients like protein, carbohydrates, and fats. The idea is that a complete meal, with a balance of these macronutrients, provides the body with everything it needs in the right proportions. This perspective encourages us to focus on the quality and variety of our food rather than isolating nutrients. It reminds us to enjoy meals as they are meant to be: whole, nourishing, and satisfying. In our upcoming IG LIVE with Rita Date, author of the book Fighting cancer with the Thali, we try to understand the aspect of food as, "Ahara Hi Aushadi Hai"

In this Instagram LIVE, we have chosen the theme "Food as Medicine" to explore traditional wisdom that beautifully ties with the holistic nature of nutrition. The discussion on the concepts of "Food as Medicine" (Ahara hi Aushadi) intends to explore how traditional meals, prepared with intention, can serve as both nourishment and medicine.

The invocation of the sacred nature of food—"Annam Brahma" (food is God); "Raso Vishnuhu" (the essence of the food that spreads to all parts of the body is Vishnu Swarupa), "Bhokta devo Maheshwara" (the one who consumes food is Maheshwara)—reminds us that eating is not just a physical act but also a spiritual one.

This session will likely inspire many to rethink their relationship with food, focusing on intention, mindfulness, and the profound impact of our choices on overall health.
