The concept of Panchakoshas minds mention in the Taittirya Aranyaka Upanishad or Taittiriya Upanishad, which itself is the part of the Krishna Yajurveda.
The Panchakoshas represent the 5 layers or sheaths of human personality which envelope or enclose the Real Essence of the Human Being. The Panchakosha theory is considered as representing the Personality theory of orthodox ancient Indian philosophies.
The ancient concept of Pañcakośa proposes five layers of personality: physical (annamayakośa), energetic (prāṇamayakośa), mental (manomayakośa), higher intellect (vijñānamayakośa), and blissful (anandamayakośa). Each layer influences our behaviour, desires, and perception.
A person who resides predominantly in the Annamayakośa is focused on physicality, sports, and comfort. One in Prāṇamayakośa is Energetic and active, drawn to fitness and exercise. One in Manomayakośa is Emotional, artistic, driven by mundane ideas, desires and opinions. Similarly one in Vijñānamayakośa is Knowledgeable, innovative, skilled in analysis and decision-making and finally the one residing in Anandamayakośa is Stable, joyful, connected to higher values and experiences inner bliss.
